I was inspired by figure 3b on page 6 of Wong’s (1972) book Principles of two-dimensional design. For the description, Wong writes, “The position of a shape is judged by its relationship to the frame or the structure” (p. 8). What I thought was interesting about this pattern was that, while the square was relatively consistent, there was a randomness to the position of the black balls, that were constrained within the box.
