kibou, 2008

wooden boat on stormy waters

Kibou, in Japanese, means hope. For this project, we were given a small piece of a map and were asked to create a visual depicting what we would see if were standing in that area based on clues from the symbols. The numbers and lines suggested that the piece of map was from the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. I thought about what it would be like to be in that exact spot at that exact time. I checked the weather, and there were reports of a hurricane approaching. I thought about how frightening it would be to be on a small boat by myself and how I could only think about my own survival (the centrality of the boat in the image is to indicate this focus on the self and the mission for survival.) Tools: Adobe Photoshop.
